What is asterisk revision

A free revision app for GCSE and A-level: log past papers and see your grade on the exam board’s real boundaries.

Who makes it

asterisk revision is made in the UK by an independent developer and has been built since 2026. Accounts and their data are stored in London. Paid plans are not on sale yet: every account is on the free plan until launch.

Who it is for

Students preparing for exams in 25 education systems, from GCSE, A-level, Scottish Highers, BTEC and AP to university, and the teachers and parents around them. It runs in the browser and installs on a phone.

What is free

  • Every tool is free: notes, flashcards, past papers, the timer, the plan and the grade calculator, with unlimited subjects and the full history.
  • A free account has 20 AI messages and 1 marked answer a month.
  • The paid plans, pro and max, add the marks needed for the next grade point by point, a weekly plan filled for you, the weekly parent email, and more AI messages and marked answers.

What it does

  • Files a student’s notes, flashcards and past papers under each subject and its specification’s points.
  • Grades a logged past paper on that series’ published grade boundaries, where the board publishes them.
  • Schedules flashcards by spaced repetition and plans study blocks around the student’s exams.
  • Runs an AI assistant, asterisk ai, that reads the student’s own notes, cards and papers.

How it works·Grade calculator·For teachers

What it does not do

  • It is not made, approved or endorsed by any exam board.
  • It does not reproduce a board’s specification text or host past papers: it keeps specification point codes and short titles, and links to the board’s own documents.
  • A grade worked out on a past series’ boundaries is the grade that mark reached in that series; next year’s boundaries are set after next year’s exams.
  • asterisk ai can be wrong, and its marking is a study aid: only the board awards a grade.
  • There are no adverts and no third-party trackers. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over.
